This guide explains how to update your platform branding, manage homepage categories, and customise the way benefits appear to employees.
What you can personalise in Happl
Within Happl, you can customise:
Your platform logo
The platform/theme name
Primary and secondary brand colours
The name of Happl AI, if enabled
Homepage benefit categories
Benefit copy and descriptions
Read-only benefit images and logos
These options help you create a more consistent employee experience and make it easier for your team to navigate their benefits.
Accessing personalisation settings
To update your platform branding:
Log in to Happl as an administrator.
Go to Settings.
Select the Personalisation tab.
This is where you can update the main branding and colour settings for your Happl environment.
Please note that personalisation settings apply across all entities in your Happl environment, so keep this in mind when choosing names, logos, and colours.
Updating your logo
In the Square Logo section, you can upload the logo that appears in the top-left corner of the Happl platform.
This will usually be your company logo, but you may also choose to use a custom icon or internal benefits brand logo.
For best results, we recommend using a clear, square image.
Recommended dimensions:
Image type | Recommended size | Format |
Theme logo | 512 × 512px | Square, 1:1 |
Read-only benefit hero images | 1600 × 1600px | Square, 1:1 |
Read-only benefit logos | 256 × 256px | Square, 1:1 |
Try to avoid images that are too detailed, tightly cropped, or difficult to read at a smaller size.
Updating your theme name
The Theme Name is the name that appears in the top-left corner of the platform, next to your logo.
You may want to use:
Your company name
Your internal benefits platform name
A custom name such as “[Company Name] Benefits”
Choose something employees will recognise easily.
Choosing your platform colours
You can update your platform’s Primary Colours and Secondary Colours from the Personalisation tab.
Your primary colour is used across key parts of the platform, including the main navigation. Because the text in these areas is light, we recommend choosing a darker or more muted colour as your primary colour to support readability and accessibility.
If your brand includes a very bright colour, such as a vivid red, yellow, or neon shade, it may work better as a secondary colour rather than the main platform colour.
You can also use gradients to create a cleaner, more polished look. We recommend testing a few combinations to see what works best with your brand.
If you are not happy with how your colours look, you can reset them back to the Happl default and start again.
Renaming Happl AI
If Happl AI is enabled for your platform, you can rename it to something that better matches your company or internal terminology.
For example, you may want to use:
Your company name
An internal AI assistant name
A benefits-related name that employees will recognise
This can help the AI experience feel more aligned with the rest of your platform.
Creating homepage categories
Homepage categories allow you to group and organise benefits on the employee home screen.
These categories can help employees find what they need more easily, especially if you have a large number of benefits or want to highlight certain types of support.
For example, you might create categories such as:
Core Benefits
Insurance
Wellbeing
Allowances
Financial Benefits
Open for Enrolment
To manage homepage categories:
Go to Settings.
Select the Homepage Categories tab.
Create or edit your categories.
You can create as many categories as you need.
A homepage category will only appear on the employee home screen once at least one benefit has been assigned to it. If you create a category and cannot see it on the homepage, check that a benefit has been added to that category.
Setting the display order of homepage categories
When creating or editing a homepage category, you can set its Display Order.
The higher the display order number, the higher the category will appear on the homepage.
For example, if you always want a category to appear at the top of the page, you could give it a high number such as 1000.
We recommend leaving gaps between display order numbers, rather than using numbers like 1, 2, 3, and 4. This makes it easier to add new categories later without needing to reorder everything.
For example:
Core Benefits: 1000
Insurance: 900
Wellbeing: 800
Allowances: 700
Assigning benefits to homepage categories
Once you have created your homepage categories, you can assign benefits to them.
To do this:
Go to the benefit you want to update.
Open the benefit settings.
Find the Homepage Category section.
Select the category you want the benefit to appear under.
Set the benefit’s display order within that category.
You can assign homepage categories across all benefit types, including policies, company benefits, and read-only benefits.
You can also set the display order for individual benefits within a category. The same rule applies: the higher the number, the higher the benefit will appear in that category.
For example, if you want Private Medical Insurance to appear at the top of the Insurance category, you could give it a higher display order than the other insurance benefits.
Updating benefit copy
You can also update the copy within your benefits.
We recommend writing benefit descriptions in your company’s tone of voice so the platform feels consistent with your wider employee communications.
Clear, employee-friendly benefit copy can help your team understand:
What the benefit is
Who it is available to
How to access or use it
Any key deadlines or eligibility rules
Try to keep copy clear, helpful, and easy to scan.
Updating read-only benefit images and logos
For read-only benefits, you can update the images and icons shown to employees.
This is a good way to make static or informational benefits feel more engaging and on-brand.
Recommended image dimensions:
Image type | Recommended size | Format |
Read-only benefit hero images | 1600 × 1600px | Square, 1:1 |
Read-only benefit logos | 256 × 256px | Square, 1:1 |
Use clear, high-quality images that work well in a square format. Avoid images where important text or detail is too close to the edge, as this may make the image look cropped or difficult to read.
Tips for getting the best result
When personalising your Happl platform, we recommend:
Using a dark or muted primary colour for accessibility
Using brighter brand colours as secondary colours where needed
Keeping logos simple and clear
Using square images wherever possible
Leaving gaps in display order numbers so future changes are easier
Writing benefit copy in your internal company tone of voice
Checking the employee view after making changes
If your brand colours are difficult to apply or something does not look quite right, please contact the Happl team and we will be happy to help.
