Some insurance policies allow you to add your family. With Happl, you can easily add or remove your dependants whenever you need. Here’s everything you need to know about the process.

Who Can You Add as a Dependant?

Some policies allow employees to add their dependants, which can include:

  • Spouse or Partner: Including civil partners and common-law partners

  • Children: Biological, adopted, or stepchildren, usually up to the age of 25 if in full-time education

Dependants will typically receive the same level of cover as the employee.

Key Things to Know:

  • Cost: Dependants are usually paid for via payroll.

  • Tax Implications: Since dependants are usually employee-funded, they are not liable for Benefit-in-Kind (BIK) tax. However, if the employer covers the cost, BIK tax will apply.

  • Policy Advantage: Adding your family to your company policy is often much cheaper than taking out a personal policy due to shared risk.

  • Mori Policy Specific: If you’re on a Mori policy, make sure to share any proof of recent cover (within the last 30 days) with another insurer to ensure existing conditions are covered.

How Much Does It Cost?

Most insurers follow this premium structure:

  • Single: 1x

  • Couple: 2x

  • Single Parent Family: 1.5x (1.6x with AXA)

  • Family: 2.5x

Example Costs:

  • Employee: £50/month

  • Partner: £50/month

  • Child: £25/month (£30 with AXA)

  • Family: £75/month

Note: In most cases, you only pay for the first child. Any additional children are covered at no extra cost.
